— AFTERCARE —
— TATTOO —
⬩ Days 1 -3 The first 3 days are the most crucial for healing your tattoo. Your artist either bandaged you with DermShield or Saran Wrap. See instructions below based on which bandage was used.
DermShield: Can be left applied for up to 7 days as long as the tattoo remains sealed. There will be fluid build-up inside the bandage. This is normal and essential for the bandage to do its job. Do not drain fluid. You may shower with your DermShield on, it is waterproof. If your bandage breaks its seal and leaks out, remove the entire bandage as soon as possible. Clean the area well with unscented soap and warm water. (Be sure your hands have been washed prior to cleaning your tattoo.) Pat dry with a clean paper towel and allow to air dry for 5 minutes. Reapply DermShield if you have some. If not, follow the next steps.
Saran Wrap: Remove after at least one hour from application. Clean the area well with unscented soap and warm water. (Be sure your hands have been washed prior to cleaning your tattoo.) Pat dry with a clean paper towel and allow to air dry for 5 minutes. The first night, Saran Wrap can be reapplied before bed to keep your sheets clean, but ONLY for the first night. If not reapplying wrap, moisturize with a thin layer of unscented lotion or an organic salve.
⬩ Days 4-7 Clean the tattoo following the steps above 3-5 times a day. Apply a thin layer of moisturizing lotion or organic salve after cleaning. Repeat moisturizing throughout the day as needed. DO NOT touch your tattoo without washing your hands thoroughly first.
⬩ Days 8-14 Repeat the procedures above, but reduce frequency to 2-4 times per day.
⬩ Important Information: New tattoos will take between 1-2 weeks to heal fully. Every tattoo and skin type is different and no two healing experiences are the same. Please refrain from the following activities while your tattoo is healing:
Swimming or Submerging Tattoo in Baths
Touching Tattoo with Unclean Hands
Sweating Too Much on Tattoo
Letting Your Tattoo Come Into Contact with Outside Contaminants
Over-saturating Tattoo with moisturizer
Using Petroleum-Based Products, Such as A&D Ointment or Aquaphor on Healing Tattoo.
Please use good judgement when healing your tattoo. If you suspect you have an infection, please call a doctor and/or visit an Urgent Care. An infected tattoo will be leaking cloudy fluid and be sore/warm to the touch.
